Taylor Swift's 1989 (Taylor's Version) closes in on Oasis's The Masterplan for Number 1 album

Can Oasis take their 1998 collection to the top, or will Taylor Swift catch up?

Oasis and Taylor Swift

This week's Official Albums Chart race hots up, as Taylor Swift narrows the gap on Oasis midweek.

While Oasis's 25th anniversary reissue of The Masterplan retains its lead today (November 8), Taylor's reigning Number 1 LP 1989 (Taylor's Version) closes in on the Britpop legends in its bid to secure a second week at the summit.

Official Charts Company data reveals that less than 500 UK chart units currently separates frontrunners Oasis from Taylor today, with what's sure to be a nail-biter of a sprint to the finish ahead.

Oasis's fourth LP, The Masterplan was originally released in 1998 to house b-sides from the group's first three studio albums: 1994's Definitely Maybe, 1995's (What's the Story) Morning Glory? and 1997's Be Here Now. This week, the record could out-peak its current best of Number 2 thanks to a multi-format reissue.

But Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher and co. face some tough competition in the form of Taylor and BTS star Jung Kook.

Last week, Taylor's re-recording of her classic 1989 LP saw her earn the second Official Chart Double of her career; topping both the Official Albums Chart and Official Singles Chart simultaneously.

1989 (Taylor's Version) stormed to the summit in what proved the biggest opening week of 2023 to date, while album track Is It Over Now? (Taylor's Version) also took the top spot.

Could the LP overtake Oasis to secure a second week at Number 1 on Friday?

Elsewhere - and not far behind - BTS star Jung Kook eyes his first-ever Top 5 solo album with debut collection GOLDEN.

Featuring two Top 10 singles (Seven featuring Latto and Jack Harlow team-up 3D), plus potential new Top 10 track Standing Next to You, GOLDEN currently eyes a Number 3 debut in what could be the highest-charting solo BTS record so far.

This week's Official Albums Chart Top 10 could also see brand-new entries from Cliff Richard with Cliff with Strings - My Kinda Life (5), Johnny Marr with hits compilation Spirit Power: The Best of Johnny Marr (6), Gregory Porter with festive collection Christmas Wish (8) and Caroline Polachek with Desire, I Want to Turn Into You (10).
