Switch Disco talk BRITs nominations and Harry Styles collaborations

We catch up with Dan Creasy and Nikos Kalogerias as they release brand-new banger SLEEP TONIGHT (THIS IS THE LIFE)

Switch Disco

What a 12 months it's been for Switch Disco, eh? In just one year, dance duo Dan Creasy and Nikos Kalogerias have toured the globe, earned their first-ever Official Top 5 single with Ella Henderson collab REACT and bagged a BRITs nomination for Song of the Year with that very same track.

Way to make us feel lazy af, boys.

And now, as if that wasn't enough to be getting on with, this week sees Switch Disco team up with Sam Feldt and R3HAB on brand-new banger SLEEP TONIGHT (THIS IS THE LIFE).

If you think it sounds familiar, the single features an inspired, really-quite-unexpected interpolation of Amy Macdonald's 2007 hit This Is The Life. Absolute tune.

Today, we catch up with Dan and Nikos to talk everything from Glastonbury dreams to BRITs nominations and Harry Styles collaborations. Ooh.

Boys, first thing's first - congratulations on the BRITs nomination. How did you REACT to the news, pun very much intended?

Nikos: We were on tour in New Zealand, and our manager called us saying ‘you’re about to have a call with the head of the label, they’ve got some news for you.’ We were just waiting, then he dropped that news. It was just so unexpected.

Dan: We’ve got our outfits ready. The whole thing feels surreal, we’re going to be in a room of people who we really look up to, and have for a long time. We’ve been in the industry for 20 years, and it’s now that these things are opening up for us. It’s not going to seem real until we get there, it hasn’t sunk in. We’re super excited.

Of those people in the room, who's top of your list to corner and ask for a collab?

Dan: Nikos is a big Harry Styles fan! Everyone, to be honest. Calvin Harris is going to be performing with Ellie Goulding, so that’d be pretty cool to see. I’d say I’d have a beer with Calvin, but I don’t think he drinks now. I’ll have an orange juice with Calvin!

Nikos: I want to meet Dua Lipa!

Dan: It's not going to happen, mate...

Nikos: Let a boy dream! I just want to say hello to her.

Harry Styles, eh? We can hear him on a Switch Disco banger, you know?

Dan: Let’s make it happen. Harry, if you’re listening, we’re ready for you!

REACT became your first-ever Top 5 single last summer. How did that shape the rest of your year?

Dan: It's opened so many doors for us. We’re able to work with so many of our peers who we’ve looked up to for so long. We’re in rooms with these people, making music. It’s pretty wild!

It was so surreal for us. We knew how lucky we were to be able to use Robert Miles’s [Children] sample in the first place. We knew it was a great record but, climbing the Official Chart and seeing how it played out, was surreal. We’ve been in the industry for a long time, but for stuff to start coming together is just wild for us.

Now, let's talk SLEEP TONIGHT (THIS IS THE LIFE). It's a huge track, how did the Amy Macdonald interpolation come about?

Dan: This Is The Life was a global hit for Amy when she brought it out in 2007, and the original’s obviously a long way away from dance music. We’ve been lucky enough to work with a really talented bunch of writers and producers. It’s a big collaboration, this song, and it’s taken months to put together with Sam Feldt and R3HAB’s schedules. Everyone was touring when this was coming together. It’s taken a long time, it’s a big team collaboration.

Nikos: We're excited to see it actually happening.

What's on the Switch Disco bucket list for 2024, then?

Dan: For us, the bucket list places to play would be Tomorrowland festival, a residency in Vegas or Ultra Music Festival in Miami. We’ve got so many places, we wanna do it all.

When it comes to the UK, I don’t think you can get a more iconic festival than that. We’d love to do Glastonbury. Creamfields, too; all those big dance festivals.

Switch Disco, R3HAB & Sam Feldt's Sleep Tonight is out now via Relentless Records.

Congratulations to you both on a fantastic year and a BRIT nomination! I used to work with Dan's mum and remember him as a little lad of 11 starting secondary school! Who knew then that he was destined for global stardom!!! 😁🎉
