Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse swings to Number 1 on the Official Film Chart as superheroes take over the Top 40

As Marvel's Avengers: End Game dominates cinemas, fifteen super titles reach this week's Top 40.

Spider-man: Into The Spider-Verse swings five places up to Number 1 on the Official Film Chart after a tight battle with Mary Poppins Returns.

Following its release on disc last week, Into The Spider-Verse crosses the finish line ahead of the Mary Poppins sequel by fewer than 900 sales, meaning Mary Poppins Returns takes a step down to Number 2.

With Avengers: End Game dominating the cinema box-office, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War charges up six places to Number 3 as an impressive fifteen superhero films feature in this week’s Top 40, with thirteen of the titles based on Marvel comics’ characters including Thor, Captain America and Dr Strange. 

Mortal Engines rebounds seven spots to Number 4 following its disc release; Aquaman drops three to 5; Bohemian Rhapsody gets another week in the chart at Number 6.

Ant-Man And The Wasp becomes the second film in the Top 10 to reap the benefits of End Game as it flies eight places to Number 7.

This week’s highest new entry is The Favourite at Number 8 on digital downloads alone, starring an Oscar-winning performance from Olivia Colman as Queen Anne.

Black Panther enters the Official Film Chart Top 10 for the first time - giving Marvel a Top 10 hat trick - leaping ten spots to Number 9. Finally, Ralph Breaks The Internet rounds up the chart at Number 10.

This week’s Official Film Chart online show features a preview of Keira Knightley in Colette, a biopic of the French novelist Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette which is  available to download and keep from May 6.
