Soundtrack for Amy Winehouse biopic Back To Black announced - including an original new Nick Cave song

The soundtrack for the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic, Back To Black, has been announced, and it includes a brand new original song by Nick Cave. 

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey, Nowhere Boy) and starring Marisa Abela (Industry) as the late, much-missed troubled British superstar, Back To Black arrives in UK cinemas April 12, and its original motion picture soundtrack will be made available to download and stream on the same day, 

As can be expected, the tracklist is made up of cuts from the two albums Amy released in her lifetime; 2003 debut album Frank and her bruised magnum opus, 2006's Back To Black, after which her biopic is named. Also included are several tracks that served as direct inspiration for Amy while making Back To Black, like the 60s doo-wop of The Shangri-La's Leader of the Pack and the vocal stylings of Billie Holiday. 

Also included is a brand new original song composed by Australian musician Nick Cave, titled Song for Amy. 

In a press release announcing the release of the soundtrack, Back To Black: Music from the Original Motion Picture is described as "[focusing] on Amy Winehouse’s extraordinary genius, her unrivalled creativity and the raw honesty that infused everything she did.

"A truly phenomenal writer and performer, Amy was and remains a once in a generation talent.”

Physical formats of the LP will be made available on May 17 2024, the same day Back To Black launches in US cinemas. 

They will be available on 140g black vinyl, limited edition peach-coloured vinyl (D2C exclusive), double vinyl, single CD and double CD formats. Vinyl editions come with a printed inner sleeve, which features a personal note from the film’s director.

The 2LP and 2CD formats will feature behind-the-scenes black and white photographs captured by Sam Taylor-Johnson on set during the making of Back To Black.
