Skrillex has announced that his first music as a solo artist in almost in two years is expected to be released soon.

The DJ - best known for helping to solidly the popularity of EDM in the early 2010s - released a series of collaborations in 2019 with artists such as Ty Dolla Sign, Lykke Li and Japenese star Hikaru Utada but hasn't dropped an album since 2014's Recess, which reached Number 13 on the Official Albums Chart.

Taking to Instagram Stories, the 33-year-old (real name Sonny John Moore) revealed to fans that new tunes are dropping "soon."

"I wanted to say to all of my fans and supporters I love you," he said, "and I appreciate your patience. New music soon."

Despite the lack of solo material in recent years, he maintains a steady presence as a producer on albums for pop hitmakers such as Ed Sheeran, Mariah Carey and Lady Gaga. His most recent work has seen him reunite with frequent collaborator Justin Bieber for a number of tracks on his new LP Justice, including 2 Much and Loved By You featuring Burna Boy.

Skrillex's previous work with the Canadian saw him push the former child star into brave, dance-orientated new territory. As one of the main producers on 2015's Purpose, he scored a UK Number 1 single with smash hit Sorry, Bieber's second-ever biggest hit on the Official Singles Chart.

Skrillex's work with fellow DJ Diplo as part of dance duo Jack Ü also netted Bieber a comeback smash in the form of Where Are U Now, which reached a peak of Number 3 on the Official Singles Chart in 2015 and was named one of the songs of the summer that year.

As a solo artist, Skrillex's biggest hit in the UK is Bangarang featuring Sirah, which scaled to Number 24 in 2012.
