Shed Seven pull ahead for second Number 1 album of the year with Liquid Gold
Shed Seven have pulled ahead in the race for this week's Number 1 albuim, meaning they are closer than ever to securing their second chart-topping LP this year.
As it currently stands, the York rockers' seventh album has managed, in the last 48 hours, to pull ahead of its nearest competition for the top spot, namely Bring Me The Horizon's POST HUMAN: NeX GEn. Sheffield's Bring Me The Horizon fall slightly behind in the race but are ahead of Shed Seven on streams, with their album currently tracking to reach a brand new peak of Number 2 following its release on physical formats this week.
At the time of writing, Shed Seven and Liquid Gold have managed to create a distance of 2,700 chart units, up from a gap of around 600 chart units on Monday's midweek update. They currently lead the pack as the best-selling and most-downloaded album of the week so far.
The band have been promoting the record heavily on social media and via a string of in-store performances around the country. They've also created a special CD pressing made to look like a vintage ticket from one of the band's gigs in the 90s, with all proceeds going to the Music Venue Trust.
But it's certainly not a done deal yet with more promo to come from both camps.
The dominance of streaming in 2024 means pop's current queen of streams, Sabrina Carpenter, is still very much in play challenging for the top spot too with her former Number 1 Short n' Sweet, right now circling the Top 3 at Number 4 and expected to climb higher as more streaming data arrives later in the week.
Further down, Mercury Prize winning jazz band Ezra Collective are still looking good to claim their first ever UK Top 10 album with Dance, No One's Watching which is holding firm at Number 6 midweek, while Pale Waves too are tracking for a Top 10 placing with Smitten.
The result of this week's race will be revealed live on The Official Chart on BBC Radio 1 this Friday from 4pm with the full Official Albums Chart Top 100 published here on OfficialCharts.com from 5.45pm.
