Shawn Mendes rockets to the top spot on the Official Trending Chart
This week's star-studded chart features new tracks from Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Zayn.
Shawn Mendes is Number 1 on this week's star-studded Official Trending Chart.
Despite massive new entries from the likes of 5 Seconds of Summer and Katy Perry, Shawn Mendes' steady week-on-week climb up the Official Singles Chart over the last month, including a midweek jump of 4 places puts him out in front on the trending tally.
5 Seconds of Summer are the highest new entry on the Official Trending Chart, landing at Number 12 as of yesterday's Official Singles Chart Update. Should 5SOS hold on, the Australian four-piece will grab their 6th Top 20 single.
Leading ladies Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, MØ, Britney Spears and Christine & The Queens also translate high up the Trending Chart, with all of their tracks set for this Friday's Official Singles Chart Top 40.
Looking further down the Official Trending Chart is the perfect way to indicate which tracks will be future singles chart contenders, and Snakehips x ZAYN's Cruel, Lukas Graham's Mama Said, M.O's Who Do You Think Of and Anne-Marie's Alarm are prime examples of potential future hits to keep your eyes on.

About the Official Trending Chart
The Official Trending Chart is a brand new chart launched for 2016 to highlight the hottest new tracks beginning to make an impact in the UK every week.
The Top 20 rundown, published on OfficialCharts.com every Tuesday, based on the first four days’ sales of each chart week, is designed to highlight emerging hits as they begin to scale the Official Charts and build buzz.
The Official Trending Chart ranks titles which are showing week-on-week chart growth, and is the only “new music” chart to reflect audio track sales and streams comprehensively across all services.
Devised by the Official Charts Company in close consultation with labels, retailers and media, the chart since launch has already highlighted emerging hits such as Number 1 singles Mike Posner’s I Took A Pill In Ibiza and Drake's One Dance.
The chart is designed to help highlight hit singles in their early stages of their growth, in the light of the shift in release strategies of record labels over the past six months. Under “On Air On Sale”, labels have started to release new music for consumers to buy or stream on the same day as those tracks are released to media (including radio stations and TV).
