Last week, Justin Bieber broke a chart record by becoming the first artist ever to occupy the Top 3 of the Official Singles Chart, but this week his domination is being seriously challenged by fellow Canadian Shawn Mendes.

In today's Update, Justin Bieber is currently at Number 1 and Number 2, with Love Yourself in with a chance of landing a sixth week at the top of the Official Singles Chart. Sorry's position at Number 2 could be in danger, however – Shawn Mendes' Stitches is just 45 chart sales behind.

Stitches was a Top 10 hit for Shawn in the US last summer, and only 7,000 chart sales separate it from Love Yourself at the top – can Stitches go all the way on Friday?

Kind of off-topic headline for the week. Whichever Canadian is at number one is not going to be what people are talking about.

Normally most songs when they hit top 10, they drop the following week.

Not necessarily true, but if a song IS set to hit the top 10 but doesn't it drops out the top 40 and possibly top 100 very quickly.

Heroes is now combined no.1 on i-tunes, hopefully it is doing well on streams. It needs to sell over 60K to have a chance of no.1 on Friday, certainly possible. The track originally peaked only at no.24 but was taken to number one by the X Factor finalists a few years ago.

The X Factor finalists 2010 spent 2 weeks at no.1 with a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes". This is confirmed by the OCC in their news story 13/01/2016 reporting the original version is likely to hit the top 10 on Friday.

Edit - Just checked it was the 2008 finalists who covered Mariah Carey's song of (almost) the same name! No wonder the confusion!

I think he may have a serious challenge from David Bowie, already a number of hits inside the iTunes chart! David Bowie will most probably dominate the album chart but don't underestimate his much loved single! Heroes has propelled inside the iTunes top 10 already!

There's too many good/great Bowie tunes for a sales trend to coalesce around a specific song. I'd expect up to 5 Bowie classics or more in the top 40, but maybe only one or two in the top ten.

Yes I agree, there is a lot of great David Bowie songs which may impact sales of a specific song, but do think a couple of songs may challenge for the No.1 spot. Will be interesting to see how many of his albums will hit the top 10! Blackstar will definitely be No.1, he's way ahead of his rival Elvis Presley and Adele.

Yes, with David's recent passing, it's 100 million% likely he will have a ton of re-entries all over the chart. "Heroes" will be the highest re-entry, re-entering somewhere in the Top 10. Other songs of his like "Let's Dance, " "Under Pressure" and "Space Oddity" should also re-enter on the chart as well.
