Shakira announces release of new single Don't Wait Up
UPDATE: Listen to Shakira's new single Don't Wait Up, produced by Dua Lipa hitmaker Ian Kirkpatrick, below:
Shakira has announced the release of her new single, Don't Wait Up, set to drop this Friday (July 16).
The track will serve as the Latin pop superstar's first English-language single in five years and the lead single from her fifth English studio album.
Don't Wait Up was trailed by a wipe of Shakira's social media accounts, before a teaser image hinting at the song's release through a text conversation was released via the singer's Instagram.
Shakira then dropped the official cover art for the single, which sees her whipping her hair while in the sea carrying a surfboard.

The singer previously teased the release of the single last month, also announcing that a music video for the track was also being shot.
Shakira has been hinting at her return to pop for some time too, earlier this year posting pictures of herself in the studio with producers The Monsterz & The Strangerz (Halsey, Camila Cabello), Ian Kirkpatrick (Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez) and Andrew Watt (Miley Cyrus, Rita Ora).
Despite her focus on releasing Spanish-language albums and collaborating with fellow Latin superstars such as Maluma, Shakira also memorably co-headlined the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime show with Jennifer Lopez, performing a selection of her greatest hits.
She last impacted the Official Charts with her 2014 English-language self-titled fourth album, which included Remember To Forget You, a duet with Rihanna that peaked at Number 11 on the Official Singles Chart.
Shakira also holds two UK Number 1 singles to her name - 2006's Hips Don't Lie with Wyclef Jean and 2007's Beautiful Liar with Beyoncé.
