Sam Smith debuts James Bond Spectre film theme Writing’s On The Wall – listen
After confirming he had recorded the track earlier this month, Sam Smith has finally premiered his new Bond theme, Writing’s On The Wall.
The track, which is available to stream and download now, was co-written with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Jimmy Napes and marks the first Bond theme song recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965.
Listen to Writing's On The Wall below:
“This is one of the highlights of my career," Smith previously commented, “"I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."
The producers of Spectre, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, said: "Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, Writing’s On The Wall will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time."
To date there have been 23 James Bond themes. The most recent one, Adele's Skyfall for the film of the same name, peaked at Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart and won an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
Skyfall is currently the highest-charting Bond theme ever alongside Duran Duran's A View To Kill (1985). As yet, a Bond theme has never topped the Official Singles Chart.
Will Sam's track break the spell and top the Official Singles Chart? Even Sam himself isn't so sure! Talking on The BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw, Sam said: "I don’t think it’s a Number 1-friendly song if you know what I mean. Who knows but I don’t think it will at all, but I’m not looking for that."
Is he right? There's only one way to find out…

It probably will be number one because it's him but it's pretty terrible. Worst Bond song in a long while.
