Sam Fender has unveiled a brooding new song called Wild Grey Ocean as part of a forthcoming deluxe re-release of his Number 1 sophomore album, Seventeen Going Under.

The BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter had teased the song on his social media yesterday, before the track's surprise release today (October 25).

Written entirely by Sam and produced by Thom Lewis, Wild Grey Ocean is a pensive percussive track, backed by tender pianos and a rollicking cymbal beat, as Sam remembers the rough coast line of his beloved North East England and how it reminds him of a lost love.

Hinted at for months but now officially confirmed, the live deluxe re-release of Seventeen Going Under is due for release December 9 and will include, alongside this new single, nine other new tracks and live recordings from his Finsbury Park show in July 2022.

Listen to Wild Grey Ocean below now.

MORE: Sam Fender's Official Charts history in full

Originally released in October 2021, Seventeen Going Under became Sam's second consecutive UK Number 1 album in the UK, with the Official Albums Chart award being presented to him by fellow Geordie legends Ant and Dec (of course. Can we get Cheryl for album 3?).

The success of Seventeen Going Under enabled Sam to pick up his second BRIT Award too, winning Best Alternative/Rock Act at the 2022 ceremony (having previously won the coveted Critics' Choice Award in 2019).

Seventeen Going Under's title track also experienced great commercial success in the UK, managing to become Sam's first-ever UK Top 10 single on the Official Singles Chart, eventually peaking at Number 3. It ranks as one of the Top 10 biggest songs of 2022 so far.
