Rough Trade to open seventh UK store

It's the first time a record shop will have occupied London's iconic Denmark Street
Rough Trade London Denmark Street Store Opening Date

Rough Trade is set to open its seventh UK store next month, it has been announced.

Following the opening of the iconic independent record shop's biggest store in Liverpool earlier this year, a seventh branch will open on London's Denmark Street in mid October.

It marks the first time a record shop has occupied the capital's street steeped in music history; The Rolling Stones recorded at 4 Denmark Street, The Beatles famously signed a publishing deal where the street meets Charing Cross Road and David Bowie even found band members at La Gioconda café, 9 Denmark Street.

And most importantly, if we do say so ourselves, is 5 Denmark Street: the birthplace of the New Musical Express (NME), which published the first-ever Official Singles Chart in 1952.

Announcing the new store opening, Lawrence Montgomery, Managing Director, Rough Trade UK, said:

"We are thrilled to bring Rough Trade to London’s iconic Denmark Street, a location that holds such a profound place in the city's music history.

"Our new store will house an extensive selection of curated vinyl across all genres, as well as a specialist book selection and exclusive merchandise.

"With its rich heritage and ongoing legacy, Denmark Street is the perfect setting for our next chapter, fostering its own unique community, while also offering all the vibrancy and expertise customers have come to expect when visiting Rough Trade.

"We look forward to welcoming music fans to explore, discover and celebrate music and culture, continuing our tradition of being more than just a record store."

The Denmark Street store will be the retailer's fourth London branch, with Rough Trade stores in Liverpool, Bristol and Nottingham, too.

For many acts, vinyl sales are incredibly important in bolstering their status on the Official Albums Chart, with 2023 given that 2023 also marking the 16th consecutive year of growth of vinyl sales in the UK.
