US R&B star Robin Thicke looks set to knock Naughty Boy’s La La La FT Sam Smith off the top of the Official Singles Chart this weekend.
Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines, featuring TI and Pharrell Williams, has got off to a flying start in the race to be this week’s Official Number 1 single.
A staggering 101,000 copies of the US R&B star’s new single have already been purchased in the UK, based on sales up to midnight last night (Tuesday, May 28). Continuing the trend of what has been an incredible few weeks of chart-topping sales in the UK from the likes of Daft Punk and Naughty Boy, Blurred Lines is now currently outselling reigning chart topper Naughty Boy’s La La La FT Sam Smith (Number 2) by more than two copies to one.
Should he maintain his lead going into the weekend, Blurred Lines will not only be Thicke’s first Official Singles Chart Number 1, it could also become the fastest selling single of 2013 so far.

Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, which also features Pharrell Williams, falls one place to Number 3 on today’s Official Singles Chart Update, while Jessie J is new in at 4 with Wild FT Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal. Wild is the first single to be released from Jessie’s upcoming second album, and looks set to become her seventh Top 10 hit.
Let Her Go by Passenger (5) completes this week’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 5.
New Entries
In addition to Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines (Number 1) and Jessie J’s Wild (4), there are two other new entries on today’s Official Singles Chart Update.
South London MC Stylo G is on course for his first Top 20 hit this weekend with Soundbwoy (16), while Jennifer Lopez looks set to clock up her 20th Top 40 hit Live It Up FT Pitbull. Live It Up is J-Lo’s third track in three years to feature the Miami rapper and producer; 2011’s On The Floor peaked at Number 1, while 2012’s Dance Again managed a Number 11 placing.
Of Monsters And Men’s Little Talks shoots up 30 places to Number 11 after Moni Tivony and Emily Worton covered it on The Voice over the weekend, while Red by Daniel Merriweather is up 34 places to 18 following Karl Michael and Nadeem Leigh’s performance on BBC 1’s latest reality TV singing contest.
And finally, The Script who performed at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Derry-Londonderry last weekend look set to re-enter the Top 40 at Number 36 with The Man Who Can’t Be Moved.
