Robbie Williams crowned Q Idol at Q Awards 2013
Plus: Pet Shop Boys take home Outstanding Contribution To Music award and Ellie Goulding beats David Bowie to Best Solo Act prize at Q magazine’s annual awards ceremony.
Q magazine’s annual awards ceremony took place at the Grosvenor House hotel on London’s Park Lane this afternoon (Monday, October 21) and OfficialCharts.com were on hand to capture all the action!
Among the big winners on the day were Robbie Williams, who was awarded the coveted Q Idol prize, while Pet Shop Boys were honoured with the Outstanding Contribution To Music award, and Ellie Goulding beat David Bowie to take home the Best Solo Act trophy.
Speaking on the red carpet before the event Robbie said:
“I don’t know what it feels like to be an idol these days; I just know that I went on tour this year and the audience threw so much love at me that I’ve never enjoyed my job so much!
“I’ve got another album coming out, after having one out last year called Take The Crown, I’ve got this one coming out called Swings Both Ways and I’m really enjoying showbiz right now. Whether I’m an Idol or not, I’m turning up because I love this shizzle.”
Meanwhile, Hurts frontman Theo Hutchcraft praised Q’s decision to honour the Pet Shop Boys with the Outstanding Contribution To Music award.
“I think it’s great that a band who aren’t a conventional band win an award like this,” he told OfficialCharts.com. “Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears are THE great British bands. It’s great that they’re finally given the respect to stand up against ‘real’ bands. And for a band like us, they’ve been very inspiring.”
