Rixton celebrate debut Number 1 with matching tattoos!
Rixton topple will.i.am to claim their debut UK Number 1 single with Me And My Broken heart.
Congratulations to Rixton who have gone straight in at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart today with their debut release, Me And My Broken Heart.
The UK band, who are comprised of frontman Jake Roche, Charley Bagnall (guitar), Danny Wilkin (bass and keyboard) and Lewi Morgan (drums) have knocked It’s My Birthday by will.i.am FT Cody Wise (Number 3 today) off the chart summit after just one week on top.
“Being Number 1 is probably the biggest thing ever that has happened to us in our lives!” a thrilled Jake Roche told OfficialCharts.com. “And it means a lot because it's in our home country, and that's something that's been the main goal for us, to really make an impact. It's a dream. Thank you to everyone who has bought it for your support.”
The Manchester band are also staying true to a bold promise they made to their fans earlier this week, by getting matching tattoos now they’ve officially secured a debut chart topper.
Rixton have a tattoo artist booked for a show they are playing tonight, who will ink a broken heart logo onto each band member; Jake is getting his on his bicep, Charley’s will be etched on his rib, Lewi’s on his thumb, and a nervous Danny says that he will be getting his on his thigh, “so he will be able to hide it from [his] parents”.
Chart Fact: Rixton frontman Jake Roche is the son of Shane Richie and former The Nolans singer, Coleen Nolan. We’re sure his parents will be both over the moon at his band scoring their debut Number 1 single, and a tiny bit jealous at the same time for beating both of their Official Chart personal bests! Shane’s highest charting single was his cover of WHAM!’s I’m Your Man, which reached Number 2 in 2003, while The Nolans’ I’m In The Mood For Dancing peaked at Number 3 in 1979. Jake says that his Official Number 1 Award will be going straight on his mum’s mantelpiece.
Meanwhile, Problem by Ariana Grande FT Iggy Azalea is a non-mover at Number 2, while last week’s Number 1. Ella Henderson’s former chart topper, Ghost, slides one place to Number 4, and George Ezra’s Budapast completes today’s Top 5, holding firm at Number 5.
With 1.17 million plays, Ariana Grande’s Problem is the most streamed track of the week. Three other tracks have also been streamed over a million times this week: Ed Sheeran’s Sing (1.1 million), George Ezra’s Budapest (1.04m) and Ella Henderson’s Ghost (1.01m).
New Entries and High Climbers
In addition to Rixton’s Me And My Broken Heart (Number 1) there are three other new entries on this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 40.
Nicole Scherzinger is new in at Number 6 with her latest single, Your Love. It is the Pussy Cat Dolls star and ex-X Factor judge’s seventh UK Top 10 as a solo artist.
Former Rudimental collaborator Ella Eyre is new in at 16 with new solo single, If I Go, while Sussex-based DJ and producer Kove scores his first UK Top 40 hit today with Way We Are FT Melissa Steel (30).
Riptide by Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy is this week’s highest climber, up 24 places to re-enter the Top 40 at Number 37, while Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud climbs six places to 23.
