Rita Ora is smashing her way through 2012 as the London-based rising star today scores her second Official Number 1 single of the year with R.I.P FT Tinie Tempah. The track, which was written by Canadian rapper Drake and produced by electronic supremos Chase & Status, was released this week and has already broken the 100,000 sales barrier, toppling reigning queen Tulisa to rack up nearly 105,000 sales.
Not only has the 21-year-old singer already been snapped up by Jay Z for his label Roc Nation, 2012 is now rapidly becoming a breakthrough year for Rita as she today also becomes the first artist to bag two Official Number 1 Awards - the new award created by the Official Charts Company in the 60th year of the Official Singles Chart. The brushed aluminium trophy is now presented by the Official Charts Company in partnership with Radio 1’s Official Chart to each new single to achieve Number 1 status.
Rita is pictured adding her second Official Number 1 Award to her mantelpiece after also providing the vocals for DJ Fresh’s chart-topping smash hit Hot Right Now back in February, which is currently the fastest selling single of 2012 so far.
OfficialCharts.com caught up with an excited Rita to hear what she made of her two Number 1 Awards.
“As you know, I’ve got my one Official Number 1 Award from doing Hot Right Now with DJ Fresh. But, this is a moment, because I have my second Number 1 because of you guys! You don’t understand what this means to me. Thank you so, so, so much for this! Me and Tinie and Chase And Status are all really, really happy. Guys, you are the best! And I really mean that. I love you!”
