RIP Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

We are sad to report that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs passed away yesterday (Wednesday, October 5).

Jobs, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004, lost his battle with the disease and died peacefully in his sleep. He was 56.

US president Barack Obama lead the tributes to the man who brought the world the iPod, the iPhone and the iPod saying:

“He transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.”

“Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives,” added his former rival, Microsoft founder Bill Gates said. “The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.”

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger was one of the first people from the music world to pay tribute to the late Apple founder, writing “RIP Steve Jobs” on his Twitter.

“We are so sad to hear about the passing of Steve Jobs,” said Coldplay via their Twitter. “In all of our encounters with him he was such a lovely man, and always so humble about his incredible talents.”

“Thanks for everything that you have done for the music business and the world," added Blink 182.

“Maybe we can turn our phones and [computers] off at a certain time in honour of his contributions?" said 30 Seconds To Mars singer Jared Leto.
