Ramz tops the first Official Trending Chart of 2017 with his latest track Barking.

The South London rapper's single has been steadily climbing up the Official Singles Chart over the past month after debuting at Number 41 in December.

Barking is set to make a sizeable leap this week, currently at Number 10 in the latest Official Singles Chart sales flash, and could earn the 20-year-old his first Top 10 single this Friday (Jan 5).

Ramz, real name Ramone Rochester, wrote Barking while studying at University. He describes the song as being about "a real encounter with a girl from Barking".

With several Christmas songs dropping out of the Official Chart, several tracks make big gains on this week's trending Top 20, including James Arthur's latest offering Naked, Craig David and Bastille's I Know You and Raye's Decline.

Elsewhere, This Is Me and The Greatest Show taken from the new film The Greatest Showman land in this week's Official Trending Chart as fans of the movie flock to its soundtrack, which is set to land inside the Top 10 on this week's Official Albums Chart. The latter track features vocals from its stars Zac Efron and Zendaya.

Other new tracks making waves in the UK this week include Camila Cabello's Never Be The Same, released ahead of her debut album on January 11, and Hailee Steinfeld and Alesso's Let Me Go.

About the Official Trending Chart

The Official Trending Chart was launched in 2016 to highlight the hottest new tracks beginning to make an impact in the UK every week.

The Top 20 rundown, published on OfficialCharts.com every Tuesday, based on the first four days’ sales of each chart week, is designed to highlight emerging hits as they begin to scale the Official Charts and build buzz.

The Official Trending Chart ranks titles which are showing week-on-week chart growth, and is the only “new music” chart to reflect audio track sales and streams comprehensively across all services.

Devised by the Official Charts Company in close consultation with labels, retailers and media, the chart since launch has highlighted emerging hits such as Number 1 singles Sign Of The Times by Harry Styles, New Rules by Dua Lipa and Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do.

The chart is designed to help highlight hit singles in their early stages of their growth, in the light of the shift in release strategies of record labels over the past six months. Under “On Air On Sale”, labels have started to release new music for consumers to buy or stream on the same day as those tracks are released to media (including radio stations and TV).
