Quiz: Did I get to Number 1?
30 songs, one question: was it a Number 1? Yes or no? Test yourself!
By Justin Myers
We've all done it: heard an old song and thought to ourselves: "That must've been a Number 1!"
Some of the most famous songs in the world never even got to Number 1, while other long-forgotten tunes actually did make it to the top of the Official Singles Chart.
The thing about getting to Number 1 is it's what every song is aiming for – and it's an achievement that not every tune can unlock.
So, we've picked, at random, 30 songs – every one of them a hit – to test your chart-topper recall. You've got a 50/50 chance of success for each one, because the question is simple: Was it a Number 1? Yes or no?

30 out of 30 no cheating!

I think we can summarise this as a bunch of classic songs never actually made #1 (Like a Virgin, Rio, Starman, We Are the Champions) and a bunch of no-one's ever heard of did (got that Rihanna song wrong twice, same name as a classic Madonna track which didn't even make the top 10).

23 correct for me!

28 out of 30 for me. Should have been the lot but I slipped up on two only for me to realise afterwards!
I Am A Stegosaurus
Needs more modern songs. Good examples would be Bom Bom, Twilight, Love The Way You Lie or even Hey Ya!
Andii
Hardly, it needs more older songs. Far too much from the 2000s. There's very little from the 80s & 90s, a handful from the 70s and just one 60s song.
I Am A Stegosaurus
You're dumb. There's only like 6 or 7 from the 2000's and loads more from before that.
Andii
You might want to check your facts before you go calling people "dumb". There are 13 songs from the 2000s (Pussycat Dolls, S Club 7, P!nk, Rihanna, Bey, J-Lo, Girls Aloud, Eminem, Busted, Robbie Williams, A1, Wheatus & Take That), 6 from the 1980s (Michael Jackson, Madonna, Duran Duran, Kate Bush, Prince & Wham!), 4 from the 1990s (Aqua, 911, The Verve, Ace of Base), 4 from the 1970s (David Bowie, ABBA, Queen & Fleetwood Mac), 2 from 2010 (Katy Perry & Lady Gaga), 1 from the 1960s (Tom Jones) and nothing from the 1950s. Now I agree they could have had more from the 2010s (where 3 of the ones you mention are from) - I had to double-check the two that were as Telephone is border-line 2000s - and there are more 80s songs than I remembered (20%), but over 40% are from the 2000s.
