Plan B takes home Olympic Number 1 for Team GB

As the spotlight of the world’s media shines on East London for the opening weekend of the 2012 Olympic Games, local boy Plan B has stormed to the top of the Official Albums Chart to take home the Number 1 for Team GB.

Ill Manors, the follow-up to Plan B’s multi-platinum 2010 album The Defamation Of Strickland Banks, is the soundtrack to his critically acclaimed big screen crime drama of the same name which is set in the Olympic borough of Newham. The album has outsold its closest rival, The Gaslight Anthem’s Handwritten (Number 2), by more than two copies to one to give Plan B his second Official Number 1 album.

Maroon 5’s Overexposed today slides one place to Number 3, while Jennifer Lopez’ new Greatest Hits collection, Dance Again, debuts at Number 4. Rihanna’s latest album, Talk That Talk (5) completes this week’s Top 5.

New Entries And High Climbers

In addition to Plan B (Number 1), The Gaslight Anthem (2) and Jennifer Lopez (4), there are just three other new entries in the Official Albums Chart Top 40.

Joss Stone’s The Soul Sessions Vol. 2, a companion album to her 2003 album The Soul Sessions, debuts at Number 6 today. US metal band Slipknot’s Best Of collection, Antennas To Hell, is new in at Number 22, while Chariots Of Fire composer Vangelis’ The Collection is at Number 37.

This weeks highest climber is Arctic Monkeys’ Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, which has climbed 89 places from 158 to 69 following their performance at the Olympic Games opening ceremony on Friday evening.
