The Pixies are set to release a special edition of their forthcoming fifth studio album, Indie Cindy, especially for Record Store Day 2014.
The band’s first full studio album since Trompe Le Monde in 1991 will go on sale in independent record shops in the UK on Saturday, April 19 – 10 days before it goes on general sale – as a two-disc, deluxe gatefold, 180-gram vinyl package. It is being released via the band’s own Pixiesmusic label.
Indie Cindy comprises of 12 new tracks, and was produced by Gil Norton (who helmed the band’s previous albums Doolittle, Bossanova, and Trompe Le Monde), in October, 2012 at Rockfield Studios in Wales. The album’s artwork (pictured below) was created by graphic designer Vaughan Oliver, who has produced the cover art for all of Pixies’ previous releases.
“We started seriously talking about recording new music about four years ago,” said Pixies drummer David Lovering, who completes the band with frontman Black Francis and guitarist Joey Santiago. “New music seemed like something we just had to do, we just couldn’t continue to go out and tour without anything new. So the talk evolved into writing and recording, and we’re all very happy with the way everything worked out.”
Indie Cindy will join over 600 other releases for this year’s Record Store Day including exclusive and limited edition products from Kylie Minogue, One Direction, Green Day, Paul Weller, David Bowie, Elbow and Nile Rodgers. See the full list of Record Store Day 2014 releases, here.
