‘It's going down, I'm yelling timber!’
Pitbull and Ke$ha’s reign at the top of the Official Singles Chart could be short lived as Pharrell Williams looks set to regain the Number 1 slot this weekend.
According to today’s Official Charts Company’s sales data, the US singer and producer’s former chart topper, Happy (Number 1), is currently outselling the Miami rapper’s latest track, Timber (2), by 1,000 copies at this midway stage.
2013 was an amazing year for Pharrell, which saw him score three UK Number 1 singles including the two biggest selling tracks of the year, and with a new record deal with Columbia Records and a new solo album on the way, 2014 looks set to be just as rosy.
Meanwhile, Avicii’s Hey Brother and Jason Derulo’s Trumpets remain static at 3 and 4, respectively, while Fuse ODG climbs nine places to Number 5 with Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad).
New Entries And High Climbers
There are three new entries on this week’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 40: Lady Gaga’s re-recording of her 2013 single Do What U Want, which sees Christina Aguilera replacing original collaborator R Kelly, debuts at Number 9 today. The pair premiered their new duet during the live final of the US series of The Voice at the end of last month.
Dutch DJ Hardwell looks set to score his first UK Top 40 hit this weekend with Dare You. The track, which features the vocals of US singer/songwriter Matthew Koma, is at 23. Also ready to make her UK Top 40 debut on Sunday is Broadway and Glee star Idina Menzel. Let It Go, which is taken from Disney’s new animated film, Frozen, is up seven places to 37.
Meanwhile, Sub Focus’ Turn Back Time climbs 15 places to re-enter the Top 40 at Number 30, Breach is up 9 places to Number 33 with Everything You Never Had (We Had It All) FT Andreya Triana, and Kid Ink’s Show Me FT Chris Brown is up 25 to Number 35.
