Pharrell’s Happy looks set to hop, skip and jump back to Number 1
Pharrell Williams could be about to enjoy his third stint at the top spot in just two months this weekend.
It looks like there’s going to be no stopping Pharrell Williams in 2014. Not satisfied with scoring two massive chart toppers in 2013 with Get Lucky and Blurred Lines, Pharrell now looks on course to take feel-good anthem Happy to the Number 1 spot for the third time this year. Happy has so far spent three weeks on top of the UK’s Official Singles Chart in two separate stints back in January.
Last week’s Number 1 from Sam Smith, Money On My Mind, falls to Number 2. Last week, Sam was the first BRITs Critics’ Choice to debut at Number 1 with his first single and also scored the fastest-selling debut single of any Critics’ Choice winner!
Another former Number 1, Rather Be from Clean Bandit FT Jess Glynne, is a non-mover at Number 3.
Highest new entry on today’s Official Chart Update is Dutch DJ and producer Tiësto. at Number 4. Red Light is on course to be his highest charting UK hit since 2011’s C’mon Catch ‘Em By Surprise, which featured Diplo and Busta Rhymes.
Katy Perry rounds off our Top 5 at this midweek stage, as Dark Horse, which Katy performed at The BRITs, trots up one more place to Number 5.
New Entries and High Climbers
Apart from Tiësto (4), there are two brand new entries in the Top 10. Louisa Rose Allen – or Foxes, as she prefers to be known – is set for her very first Top 10 hit with latest single Let Go For Tonight at Number 7. Her previous best was 2013’s Youth, which peaked at Number 12.
Paloma Faith is on track for her second Top 10 in today’s Update – Pharrell-produced Can’t Rely On You is new at Number 8.
John Legend may be heading for a second UK Top 10 after zooms 19 places to Number 10 with the love song he wrote for wife Chrissy Teigen, All Of Me.
The ‘Bastimental’ mash-up of Pompeii and Waiting All Night performed by Bastille, Rudimental and Ella Eyre at Wednesday’s BRIT Awards continues to climb, rising six places to Number 15. Waiting All Night won Best British Single at the star-studded ceremony at London’s O2.
Best British Female winner Ellie Goulding scores her eighth Top 20 as a lead artist, as Goodness Gracious climbs ten places to Number 16. American Authors’ Best Day of My Life also climbs ten places in today’s Update to land at 27.
Show Me, from Kid Ink FT Chris Brown, zooms 39 places to re-enter the Top 40 at Number 36, and classic track We Built This City, from Starship, rockets 144 places this week to break back into the Top 40 at Number 40. The track, currently being used in an advert for Three Mobile, was originally a Number 12 hit in November 1985.
