Pepsi and Shirlie on Wham!
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘The Final Wham!’, we caught up with Pepsi Demacque and Shirlie Kemp – who went on to find international acclaim as Pepsi & Shirlie – to find out what life inside Wham! was really like.
This week in 1985, Wham! topped the Official Singles Chart with ‘I’m You Man’ (as sung by Marcus Collins on last week’s X Factor). Less than six months later the duo - George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley – and backing singers Pepsi Demacque and Shirlie Kemp would go their separate ways, bowing out with one final mega-gig at London’s Wembley Stadium in June, 1986. They also released a career-spanning best of collection entitled ‘The Final Wham!’.
During the course of their career, Wham! clocked up four Number 1 singles, two Number 1 albums and, in the 1980s, were the only British act to secure three Number 1 singles in both the UK and US.
