OneRepublic’s Counting Stars reclaims the Official Singles Chart Number 1 slot from Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball.

After losing their Official Singles Chart crown to Miley CyrusWrecking Ball last Sunday, OneRepublic return to Number 1 today with Counting Stars.

The US band’s latest track made its UK Top 40 debut back in August, before eventually climbing to the top spot two weeks ago. Counting Stars is now OneRepublic’s biggest UK hit to date, beating 2007’s Apologize FT Timbaland, which peaked at Number 3. That said, the band’s frontman Ryan Tedder is no stranger to the upper reaches of the Official Singles Chart, having penned chart smashes for the likes of Adele, Beyonce, Leona Lewis and, more recently, Ellie Goulding’s Number 1 hit Burn and James Blunt’s Bonfire Heart (which climbs two places to Number 4 today).

“This is by far the coolest thing that’s happened to us,” Ryan told OfficialCharts.com. “I’ve had a number of Number1s with other artists, but never one with this band. This is where I spend most of my time; these guys [guitarists Zach Filkins and Drew Brown, bassist Brent Kutzle and drummer Eddie Fisher] are like my brothers and we’ve been everywhere and back. This is the highlight of the year!”

Miley Cyrus falls to Number 2 today with Wrecking Ball, while Lawson are new in at Number 3, scoring their fifth Top 10 hit with Juliet.

Eminem enters at Number 5 with Rap God; his second Top 5 single in as many weeks. The US rapper released the six-minutes-plus track on Tuesday as the second single from his hotly anticipated eighth album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

New Entries

In addition to Lawson’s Juliet (Number 3) and Eminem’s Rap God (5), there are five other new entries on today’s Official Singles Chart Top 40.

Rising London-based drum ‘n’ bass star Wilkinson has scored his first ever Top 10 single with Afterglow. The DJ and producer, who has previously worked with Chase & Status, Example and Professor Green, is new in at Number 8. Meanwhile, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea also debuts in the Top 10 today with Change Your Life. The track is her highest charting UK single to date, beating Bounce which peaked at Number 13 earlier this year.

Justin Bieber enters at Number 20 with to land his second Top 20 hit in as many weeks with All That Matters, while Cher returns to the Top 40 for the first time in almost 12 years with I Hope You Find It (25). The track is her 34th Top 40 hit to date.

And finally, UK rockers Don Broco make their Top 40 debut with You Wanna Know at Number 39.
