The remixer-turned-pop-star blends EDM, bass and funk with radio-friendly results.

Youngr - that can't be his real name, right?

You'd be correct there. Manchester hailing singer Youngr is known to his mates as Dario Darnell. He's the son of August Darnell, frontman of the Latin-disco group Kid Creole.

Has he followed in his father's footsteps then?

Not quite, but he's proud of hit musical roots. His own sound is a melting pot of pop, EDM, bass and funk, often with very radio-friendly results. He's earned a sizeable following after posting videos of himself remixing songs by Calvin Harris, Pharrell and Daft Punk online, as well as a recent US tour support slot with Matoma. His Balearic remix of  The Temper Trap's Sweet Disposition, which has racked up millions of views online, is well worth a watch.

Sounds good, but how is his own music shaping up?

Recent single Ooh Lordy is a rush of breezy and uplifting pop, while the funk-lined Remember is more mellow offering. He recently put all his one-off releases together in one handy collection, called This Is Not An Album.

What about brand new stuff?

His latest single, Drive, is out now and is about as summery as it gets. As he explains himself: "Have you ever had that feeling of wanting to just get in your car with your partner/best friend/brother/sister/kids/mum/dog/cat and just drive somewhere? Well this song is about that feeling. Sugar coated in a nice bite-sized tale of romance."

The song's vertical video - premiered below - is a very cute family affair, starring his mum and dad, brother, sisters, dog and a special someone...
