One to watch: Sasha Sloan

Sasha Sloan is a name pop fans can expect to hear a lot more of in 2018…

Her name sounds familiar. Why do I recognise it?

There’s been a fair amount of buzz about Sasha since she emerged in late 2017. After a string of well-received tracks, the 22-year-old Boston native has now signed a global deal with RCA/Columbia Records, so expect things to step up another few gears this year.

Great, so what does her music sound like?

Subdued, left-of-centre electronic pop is where her sound is currently at. Her first release Ready Yet is about trying to salvage a relationship that sounds a bit Selena Gomez, while the melancholy R&B sound Runaway has a touch of the Lana Del Reys about it. But, as she says: “I’m still figuring it out. It’s definitely been scary at times, but it’s also been exciting to share these songs and hear how people relate to them.”

Just the two songs then?

No, she’s just released her Sad Girl EP, which brings together all six of her one-off releases into one handy place. Listen out for recent single Normal, which takes cues from Robyn’s Dancing On My Own and has that kind of subtle catchiness about it that worms its way into your brain without you noticing.

Anything else I should know about her?

Before the release of Ready Yet, Sasha collaborated with dance producers Kygo, Kaskade, Odesza. She also co-wrote Camila Cabello’s Top 10 hit Never Been The Same and has recently been in the studio with Dua Lipa.
