One to Watch: Laoise
The synth-pop superstar-in-the-making is back with an infectious new single.
If electro-pop is your cup of tea, then Laoise's latest EP is a flask full of caffeine.
The RTÉ Choice Music Prize nominee dropped Mad at the end of July, a four-track set of colourful synth-lead gems.
The latest single from the collection is Seriously?, a chipper and infectious track about being in love with someone who just isn't getting the obvious signals. The music video is just as bold, with Laoise surfing on a cartoon pizza and playing with dogs. What more could you want?!
While Seriously? has hints of Charli XCX, Julia Michaels and Ellie Goulding, the EPs title track has a thumping chorus reminiscent of La Roux and Robyn. Looking to the EP's other songs, Again could easily slot onto the tracklist of a Nina Nesbitt record, while I Mean... draws comparisons to CHVRCHES and MUNA.
In support of the EP, Laoise has announced a show at LoSt LaNe in Dublin on Tuesday November 12. Tickets go on sale August 23. It follows her appearance at INDIEPENDENCE Festival on the Big Top stage alongside other rising stars like Tim Chadwick and Fia Moon.
For any UK readers, Laoise's playing her first headline gig in London on Monday September 23 at The Waiting Room.
