Niall Horan caught the music world by surprise with his debut solo single This Town; and the track is now set to make a big impact in the UK this week.

The One Direction's first solo offering tops this week's Official Trending Chart - the list of 20 songs making waves in the UK at the moment, based on movement up the Official Singles Chart.

This Town entered at Number 100 last Friday just hours after going on sale, and looks set to vault into this week's Top 10, currently Number 5 in the latest sales flash.

The song - produced by Adele/Sia hitmaker Greg Kurstin - follows Niall's signing to Capitol Records in America. "Thank you to all the One Direction fans for your love and support as always," he said. "I'm looking forward to the next part of this journey together."

Elsewhere, Craig David and Sigala's Ain't Giving Up makes this week's trending Top 20 following the release of Craig's new album Following My Intuition, and Crank It (Woah!) by producers Kideko and George Kwali is on the up, vaulting 20 places to Number 60 on the latest Official Singles Chart sales flash. The song appears in the new Lucozade Sport TV advert, and the accompanying music video was premiered last week here on Official Charts.

Brand new songs released last Friday (September 30) that are impacting on this week's Official Trending Chart include The Chainsmokers' All We Know ft Phoebe Ryan, the follow up to their Number 1 single Closer, Galantis & Hook N Sling's Love On Me, DNCE's Body Moves, and Busted's On What You're On. The trio's funky new track is currently sitting just outside the Top 40 at 43.

Finally, Robbie Williams hits this week's trending Top 20 with Party Like A Russion. The track, which he performed on The Graham Norton Show last week, is taken from his forthcoming album Heavy Entertainment Show.

About the Official Trending Chart

The Official Trending Chart is a brand new chart launched for 2016 to highlight the hottest new tracks beginning to make an impact in the UK every week.

The Top 20 rundown, published on OfficialCharts.com every Tuesday, based on the first four days’ sales of each chart week, is designed to highlight emerging hits as they begin to scale the Official Charts and build buzz.

The Official Trending Chart ranks titles which are showing week-on-week chart growth, and is the only “new music” chart to reflect audio track sales and streams comprehensively across all services.

Devised by the Official Charts Company in close consultation with labels, retailers and media, the chart since launch has already highlighted emerging hits such as Number 1 singles Mike Posner’s I Took A Pill In Ibiza and Drake's One Dance.

The chart is designed to help highlight hit singles in their early stages of their growth, in the light of the shift in release strategies of record labels over the past six months. Under “On Air On Sale”, labels have started to release new music for consumers to buy or stream on the same day as those tracks are released to media (including radio stations and TV).
