New Releases: Taylor Swift, Tyla, Kenya Grace, Dove Cameron, Peter Gabriel
Welcome to your weekly round-up of the biggest new single, album and home entertainment releases, all in one handy place, only on Official Charts.
This week, let's start with singles, as we have a wide array of releases from a distinct number of acts releasing hard-hitting tracks tomorrow.
First, and most likely biggest, is Taylor Swift. Already a monolithic cultural entity, she has ascended to even greater heights this year, with an all-encompassing popularity to rival The Beatles at their height. To celebrate the news that she's just become the most-streamed act of the year on both Spotify and Apple Music, Taylor has released another song from the vaults.
The song in question - You're Losing Me - was originally recorded in 2021 for inclusion on Midnights, but was instead released as a vinyl-only exclusive. Now, however, we can hear the devastating synth ballad whenever we want. It's one of Taylor's most effecting lyrical tricks, bringing right into the heart of the tender push and pull of a relationship slowly dwindling. "I wouldn't marry me either," she laments, "a pathological people pleaser." Ouch.
One of the biggest breakout acts of the year, Afrobeats princess Tyla, who issues her first new single after the success of the UK Top 10 single Water. Truth Or Dare builds up on this considerable hype, and acts as a quick balm before Tyla unleashes her full-length debut album, slated to arrive in early 2024.
And speaking of building on considerable hype...British singer and producer Kenya Grace, still riding high from the Number 1 success of Strangers, the South African-born savant has been performing an unreleased song, Paris, on her currernt tour, and today that song arrives fully formed.
There's also new tracks coming from Lana Del Rey, who covers John Denver's classic standard Country Roads, Take Me Home, Jess Glynne, whose previous Number 3 chart hit This Christmas finally arrives on streaming and Paloma Faith, whose covered Santa Baby for her brand-new Christmas EP.
As for albums, American dark-pop priestess Dove Cameron (finally) begins to issue her debut studio album, Alchemical. It's going to come in two parts, with the first released on Friday. Part 1 includes her breakthrough single, Boyfriend, as well as other devastating pop tracks like Sand and the fiery Fatal Woman.
It's a big day for British rock icon Peter Gabriel, who issues his first album of original material in 21 years (!) with i/o, It's been in the making for at least three decades, with production of the album initially beginning in the year 2000. Co-produced by Brian Eno, Gabriel has taken a typically outré route to releasing material, since January this year, a track from the LP has been released on every full moon.
