This week's biggest new releases single, album and DVD releases, only on Official Charts.
Welcome to your weekly round-up of the biggest new single, album and home entertainment releases, all in one handy place, only on Official Charts.
Making a start with albums this week, Take That are entering a distinct new phase of their career with the release of their new album, This Life. Marketed as TT 3.0, it sees Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald move away from the mature synth-pop that they mastered during the latter part of their comeback. Recorded in America, This Life is a heavily Americana-influenced record, produced by Dave Cobb (Brandi Carlile) and is the first proper studio album in six years.
Fresh from the success of her accomplished second UK Number 1 album guts (which helped her claim her second Official UK Chart Double earlier this summer), Olivia Rodrigo had a little surprise for fans who had bought vinyl variants of the LP. Enclosed in each one was a secret, hidden song not uploaded to DSPs on the main album; crunch dance number Obsessed ("I'm so obsessed! With your ex!"), Scared Of My Guitar, Stranger and Girl I've Always Been. Now, fans will be able to hear all four brand new tracks in full for the first time. Keep a beady eye on Obsessed, the clear highlight of the bunch, which was co-written with indie savant St Vincent.
Chart fans also have a lovely surprise this week as Now! That's What I Call Music! unleash their latest collection; Now That's What I Call 40 Years! a bumper 5 CD boxset containing 100 tracks from across the four decades of the much-loved compilation series. Meanwhile over on singles, British musician Jacob Collier may not be a household name (yet), but he's certainly made some powerful friends following a series of high-profile releases which have garnered several Grammy nominations. He offers up his biggest chance yet at an Official Singles Chart breakthrough today, with brand new track Witness Me seeing him team-up with none other than Stormzy and Shawn Mendes, as well as acclaimed gospel singer Kirk Franklin.
Paloma Faith is also preparing for the release of her sixth album The Glorification of Sadness next year. She's following up the bombastic How You Leave A Man (banger) with Bad Woman, which Paloma calls a "personal standout" on the new record.
"[Bad Woman] delved into the myriad societal challenges women confront," Paloma explains in a statement. "My hope is that women embrace their authenticity, feel comfortable in their own skin, and understand that imperfection is a part of being human. Let's free ourselves from the societal pressures that label us and encourage each other to stay true to our authentic selves."
Two of the standout artists of both their generations - Icelandic priestess Bjork and genre-blurring champion Rosalia - have teamed up for the release of their first-ever collaboration, Oral. One of the most straightforward pop songs both acts have put their names to in some time, Oral was originally written by Bjork between 1997's Homogenic and 2001's Vespertine, she's enlisted the services of La Rosalia, with the profits from the single to help fight the destructive practice of factory farm fishing of Icelandic salmon in Bjork's homeland, proving this really is pop with purpose.
