New Music Friday Releases: Katy Perry, Shawn Mendes, Will Young and more
Welcome to New Music Friday, your one place to discover the biggest new song, album and DVD releases.
Let's start with singles, shall we?
You wait ages for a new Shawn Mendes track, then two come along at once. Following the announcement of his fifth studio LP Shawn, the Canadian singer-songwriter releases two brand-new songs this week: Why Why Why and Isn't That Enough.
On his return to music, four years after the release of his last record Wonder, Shawn recently explained: "Two years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic...To be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift."
Katy Perry is back with LIFETIMES, the latest cut from her upcoming sixth album 143. She'll be hoping to secure a 29th Official Top 40 single with the Ibiza-ready house banger.
Fresh from their Rebel Diamonds UK tour, The Killers drop brand-new track Bright Lights; an ode to their Las Vegas roots. Meanwhile, lightning strikes twice for Clean Bandit, as they reunite with Anne-Marie (alongside David Guetta) on latest single Cry Baby.
Following its Top 10 debut last month, JADE releases the S.A.D. Version (that's slow, angelic and dramatic) of Angel Of My Dreams, as cult pop fave Addison Rae drops Diet Pepsi.
Now, onto albums.
Will Young is back with his first album of originals in five years. Light It Up sees Will work with new collaborators pHD, a powerhouse Scandi pop duo who've worked with the likes of Little Mix, as well as longtime pals Andy Cato of Groove Armada and Jim and Mima Elliot.
Iloilo City-born, London-raised beabadoobee (real name Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus) will be hoping to bag a third Official Top 10 album with This Is How Tomorrow Moves, as Scottish alt-rock outfit Twin Atlantic unleash Meltdown on digital platforms via their own label, Staple Diet.

What's going on here? New releases for tomorrow?
1. Jade - Angel Of My Dreams - was in the charts already 2 weeks ago;
2. The Kid Laroi - Nights Like This - 1st appearance in the UK chart was on the 5th of last month.
and, even worse, the album from Dasha "What Happens Now" was released on February the 6th!
I strongly believe some are still on holiday - or very, very lazy!
It's not the first time this happens since the new layout of the site (Top 40 is a dupe from the Top 100, i.e. new songs in the top 40 are not announce on the radio because they were previously in the top 100). I seriously think of writing an article about this, and eventually inform the BBC in a registered letter.
Cheers,
Bam
