Naughty Boy scores his first ever Number 1 single as a lead artist, and the fastest selling single of 2013 so far, with La La La FT Sam Smith.
Emeli Sande collaborator Naughty Boy has clocked up the fastest selling single of 2013 so far, and his first ever Official Singles Chart Number 1 as a lead artist, with La La La FT Sam Smith.
Naughty Boy (real name Shahid Khan) began his career as a music producer in 2005 after getting a grant from The Prince’s Trust to establish Naughty Boy Recordings. Later that year he won £44,000 on Noel Edmonds’ hugely popular game show, Deal Or No Deal, which he used to buy more recording equipment. Since then he has collaborated with the likes of Emeli Sande, Wiley, Chipmunk, Leona Lewis, Tinie Tempah and Rihanna, to name but a few.
After clocking up sales of over 145,000 copies during its first calendar week on sale, today La La La nudges ahead of 2013 previous fastest selling single, The Saturdays’ What About Us FT Sean Paul, which sold over 114,000 week one.
After four weeks at the Official Singles Chart summit, Daft Punk fall one place to Number 2 with Get Lucky. Passenger are also down one place with Let Her Go (Number 3), while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ Can’t Hold Us FT Ray Dalton and Rudimental’s Waiting All Night FT Ella Eyre remain static at Number 4 and 5, respectively.
New Entries and High Climbers
We Own It (Fast & Furious) by 2 Chainz FT Wiz Khalifa climbs 55 places to Number 6. Eurovision winner Emmelie De Forest soars 84 places from Number 99 to Number 15 with Only Teardrops, while Lana Del Rey shoots up 20 places to make her Top 40 debut with Young And Beautiful (23).
The 1975 score their second Top 40 single with The City (30), which is taken from their newly released IV EP.
This week’s Top 40 is completed by Evanescence’s 2003 Number 1 hit, Bring Me To Life, which climbs 78 places to Number 40 following Aliki Chrysochou performance on Britain’s Got Talent last weekend.
And finally, Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl, has achieved its first Official Singles Chart placing ever today. The Northern Irish singer / songwriter’s 1967 track has climbed to Number 60 on the Official Singles Chart.
