2024 is truly 2004-ing

Early noughties pop hits troubling the Top 20 wasn't exactly on our 2024 bingo card, but we're not complaining.

Following the unexpected - but wholly welcome - renaissance of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Murder on the Dancefloor thanks to its inclusion in Emerald Fennell-directed film Saltburn, Natasha Bedingfield is the latest artist to see a chart resurgence.

With the song featuring in Will Gluck's new movie Anyone But You, starring Sydney Sweeney, Natasha's 2004 smash Unwritten returned to the Official Singles Chart Top 40 last week at Number 24.

Now, the track is predicted to climb even higher; expected to rebound back into the Top 20 for the first time in 19 years.

2024 really is 2004-ing, no?

In today's sales update (January 17), Unwritten looks set to lift four spots to Number 20 this week; the song reaching new audiences as it goes viral on social media.

Unwritten currently sits ahead of Zara Larsson and David Guetta's On My Love (21), and just behind D-Block Europe and Noizy's Eagle (19) midweek.

The title track of Natasha's chart-topping 2004 debut Unwritten, which also included SingleThese Words and I Bruise Easily, the song originally peaked at Number 6 on its release.

And this isn't the first time Unwritten has ridden the cultural zeitgeist. The track was famously used in the credits of MTV reality series The Hills, which ran from 2006-2010.

Her debut album Unwritten reached Number 1 in 2004, while 2007 follow-up N.B. peaked at Number 9.
