Miley Cyrus looks set to be Number 1 on both the Official Singles Chart AND the Official Albums Chart this weekend, according to today’s Official Chart Update.
Miley Cyrus looks set to be Number 1 on both the Official Singles Chart AND the Official Albums Chart this weekend, according to today’s Official Chart Update.
Miley Cyrus is on course for not one, but two Number 1s this weekend! According to the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, her latest single Wrecking Ball, is leading the charge on the Official Singles Chart, while new album, Bangerz, is currently in pole position on the Official Albums Chart.
Should Miley maintain her lead though to Sunday morning’s cut off point, it will be the first Official Chart Double of 2013.
Despite starring in Disney’s Hannah Montana between 2006 and 2011, and releasing music as herself and under her on-screen alter ego, the 20-year-old singer and actress only scored her first chart topper on these shores little over two months ago with We Can’t Stop.
With a sales tally of nearly 62,000 copies, Wrecking Ball is almost certain to become Miley’s second Number 1 UK single, and is more than 18,000 copies ahead of today’s Official Singles Chart Update Number 2, Eminem’s Berzerk, at this midway stage. The controversial video for the track had amassed nearly 205 million views on YouTube as of this morning.
Meanwhile over on the Official Albums Chart Update, Bangerz is fending off tough competition from Chase & Status’ hotly anticipated third studio album, Brand New Machine (new in at Number 2) and reigning chart queens Haim’s Days Are Gone (down two places to Number 3). Miley’s previous highest charting album was 2010’s Can’t Be Tamed, which peaked at Number 8.
Official Singles Chart Update New Entries
In addition to Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball (Number 1) there are six other new entries in today’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 10.
Eminem is on course for his 20th Top 10 single as a lead artist with Berzerk (Number 2). The track is taken from the US rapper’s upcoming eighth studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which is released in the UK next month.
Conor Maynard is new in at Number 3 today with R U Crazy, the lead single from Conor’s forthcoming second album was co-written with Labrinth. The Saturdays are set to debut one place behind him with Disco Love (4), while James Blunt is heading back to the Top 10 for the first time in six years with Bonfire Heart (6), followed by John Newman’s Cheating (7) and Justin Bieber’s Heartbreaker (8).
And finally, Norwegian comedy duo Bard and Vegard Ylvisaker, AKA Ylvis, look set to climb into the Top 40 on Sunday with The Fox. The Gangnam Style-esque novelty track climbs 12 places from 46 to 34 today.
