With three weeks to go until this year’s Official Christmas Number 1 is announced (on December 21), Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey sees her festive banger All I Want For Christmas Is You return to the Top 40 this week.

The track leads the charge of Christmas songs making their annual ascent up the chart in December, zooming 31 places this week to Number 34. It’s the 12th consecutive year the festive staple has re-entered the Top 40, managing the feat every year since 2007, shortly after downloads started counting towards the Official Chart.

All I Want For Christmas Is You was released in 1994 and topped out at Number 2, denied the top spot by East 17’s Stay Another Day. Last year the song equalled its original peak for the first time.

It has since gone on to sell over one million copies in pure sales, and a whopping 1.86 when audio and video streaming equivalent sales are added in.

Mariah isn't the only act seeing an early surge for their Christmas hit: Wham! are new at Number 52 in this week's Official Chart with Last Christmas, and Fairytale Of New York starts at Number 66.

The original 1984 release of Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? enters at 88, and Michael Buble's rendition of It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas opens at 94. Expect to see these climb and for more to enter in the coming weeks.
