Mariah Carey makes a glittering return to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart with All I Want For Christmas Is You.

Ending Taylor Swift’s six-week long reign at the top of the Official Singles Chart with Anti-Hero, Mariah reaches the summit notching up 10.8 million streams over the past seven days.

This is All I Want For Christmas Is You’s second stint at Number 1 in the UK, having first reached the top in 2020, 26 years after its release. See Mariah’s Official Charts history in full here.

Meanwhile, there’s fantastic news for Raye today who, following her move from major label to a newly independent artist, earns a career-best peak with Escapism. feat. 070 Shake, up four places to Number 2 - more on that here.

While the undeniable Queen of Christmas may rule supreme this week, we also see four more Christmas songs land in the Official Top 10; Wham! with Last Christmas (3), Ed Sheeran & Elton John’s Merry Christmas (4), Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree (6) and Michael Bublé with It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas (10).

Stormzy’s tender ballad Firebabe (9) cracks the Top 10 for the first time, up two places following the Number 1 debut of his third studio album, This Is What I Mean, last week.

Outside the Top 10, American producer Metro Boomin lands two Top 40 debuts today following the release of new album Heroes & Villains; Creepin’ ft. The Weeknd and 21 Savage (13), and Superhero (Heroes & Villains) with Future and Chris Brown (39).

Lewis Capaldi’s new single Pointless (co-written with Ed Sheeran) is another new entry at Number 20.

So that Ed Sheeran and Elton John song is now added to the list of songs that come back every year? I did not see that coming tbh

Sorry but it's high time we had some new festive songs. There's no longer any originality in the songs constantly being re-released.

Whatever happened to Greg Lake I believe in Father Christmas, great tune but never enough streams.

Beautiful song, but just not well known enough it seems.

I have officially learned that Ladbaby is officially releasing a 5th sausage roll themed song based around Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? If England don't win the World Cup then Three Lions will not stop him and that's the Xmas no. 1 chapter closed.Forget the rest.

I really wish they would just go away. No-one needs yet another song written by someone with the mental age of a five year old, who thinks it's funny to replace the words in a song with "sausage rolls". The Teletubbies song in 1997 had more intelligence.

Thank God. If it weren't for ACR rules fudging up the charts then that grating Anti-Hero song would have already been kicked out sooner than this.

Phenomenal for Raye, although a shame that she couldn't sneak a week at #1 before the total Xmas takeover...obviously Escapism will fall next week but hopefully can maintain momentum for another few weeks and secure #1 on 6th Jan.

I'm not so sure it is obvious. The Christmas songs have had early peaks in previous years.

Actually, having looked it up. AIWFCIY has fallen in or before Christmas week every year for the last 4 years. It's quite possible for Raye to be Christmas #1.

Not gonna lie, I feel a bit bad for all the upcoming artists around this time of year! 😔

With this many Christmas songs in the chart at the same time, it makes it way more difficult than normal for a lot of rising stars to get their first charting opportunity, which is already a tough enough task for them anyway. :/

Hoping to see a lot of new names break through & take over the charts in 2023!

Make sense for them to release their new material in the new year when the Christmas songs have disappeared and low sales can get higher chart positions. Any artist releasing anything this time of the year surely knows the consequences.

it's only for a few weeks... they will all climb up the charts in January

True, but it may take a while after release for them to get recognition & it doesn’t change the fact that the charts aren’t all that interesting to follow in December outside of maybe the Christmas chart. 🤔

That’s the only thing I’m excited for in January! 😅
