Madonna addresses delays in production of biopic, touts possible TV adaption
She knows you're waiting for it, don't worry...
We believe it was a beloved philosopher (Julie Andrews in The Princess Diaries) who said that a Queen is never late, everyone else is simply early.
Such is the case for the long-gestating biopic of the Queen of Pop, Madonna, which has seen countless delays and setbacks since first being announced more than four years ago.
Touted to be written and directed by Madonna herself, the biopic of her life (first called Little Sparrow when Juno scribe Diablo Cody was attached, now carrying the title Who's That Girl?. named after her 1987 song of the same name) was apparently cancelled last year, following the start of Madonna's greatest hits tour Celebration, which took up most of her energy for the past year.
Filming had never actually begun on the film, which was due to be distributed by Universal, but it was widely reported that Ozark star Julia Garner had won the role of Madge after the infamous (and deeply iconic) 'Madonna Boot Camp,' which had seen actresses like Florence Pugh and Sophie Turner and singers Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira throw their hats into the proverbial Madonna ring.
Taking to Instagram, Madonna gave fans a much-needed update on the progression of her biopic since the end of the Celebration Tour. And...it seems like a mixed bag, with Madge alluding to meetings with studio heads and agents who have urged her to downsize the scale of the film to make it smaller (and cheaper to film), while also touting that if she's unable to come to a compromise on how a feature-length film may work, she may turn it into a TV series (!) instead.
"After struggling for days in LA , listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn’t make my film [that I've been working on for 4 years] downsize-down scale -think smaller-they say—I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged...."
She continued: "No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful...it forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way. [...] f you want something badly enough in life— the whole universe will conspire to help you get it. Should I make the story of my life into a series or a feature film?"
Up to you, Queen! We'll keep waiting regardless.
Following the conclusion of the Celebration Tour, it appears making the biopic of her life isn't enough for our Madge, as she also appears to be working on new music! Last year came the news that she had been writing with the one and only Max Martin, and this year confirmed she had also re-entered the studio with Stuart Price, the producer behind her 2005 dance opus Confessions on a Dance Floor.
Also this year, Madonna proved that she can never truly be counted out - she scored her landmark 64th UK Top 10 single (and first in 15 years) with Popular, on which she appeared alongside The Weeknd and Playboi Carti.

Not sure how these film studios expect her to "think smaller" when her life has been an epic rollercoaster. Then again, If Queen, Elton, Elvis and MJ can do it, then so can she. We'll be watching regardless. QUEEN OF POP.
