Loveable Rogues: “Pudsey was too busy for Love Sick video!”
Following their first ever headline tour and scoring their debut Official Singles Chart Top 10 with What A Night, the Britain’s Got Talent trio are back with new album This And That.
Hi guys! Tell us about your new album This And That…
Eddie: "We spent a lot of time making it, we started with songs that we wrote ages ago when we signed with Syco. A lot of love (has gone into it), almost too much love! When you start making crunch time decisions it gets very hard - Love Sick has been recorded about four different times!"
Sonny: "Our sound at the start was literally just harmonies, ukulele and guitar and then we went to the studio and were able to put drums on and stuff like that, so it’s quite exciting for us really. Being let loose in a studio, that’s what our album is."
Te: "It’s one fun amalgamation of epicness!"
What your favourite track on the album?
Eddie: "Oooh… Story About Me, I just love everything about it. I love the little journey that it goes on and I love what it's saying. I love a bit of trumpet. You can’t beat a bit of trumpet!"
Sonny: "It’s just got a wicked vibe really, it’s quite Ska-y and if you listen to it in the sunshine it’ll just make you feel happy."
You rose to fame on Britain’s Got Talent - do you still speak to any of the other contestants?
Eddie: "I still speak to Jonathon and Charlotte as they live quite locally, and we performed at Ashleigh’s 18th birthday! Pudsey wasn’t there though, he was having a little nap!"
Did Pudsey get a look in for the dog love story in the Love Sick video?
Eddie: "Pudsey was too busy! He’s got his own film to promote. It’s not so much him - it’s his agent!"
What’s the best bit about your job?
Sonny: "Being verified on Twitter! That was the day I was like, 'You know what, i’ve done alright I have.' I’m retiring now I’m verified on Twitter!"
Te: "And getting free things! Free things are really good, that’s the shallow answer! But really, just the satisfaction of seeing people singing your songs back to you is kind of amazing."
Eddie: "Definitely doing the gigs!"
You recently covered Ed Sheeran’s Sing in the back of a transit van (!) How did that come about?
Te: "Haha, gotta keep it real!"
Eddie: "That was my mate’s van! We were at Te’s house and my mate was delivering something round the corner and I said, 'do you wanna come round quickly so we can borrow your van?'"
What’s next for the Loveable Rogues?
Te: "We’ve got a headline tour in November which is all really exciting. And working on the second album! Now this album's finished it’s a case of just building up a body of work and progressing as an act. The writing process is an ongoing thing for us, we don’t really stop, we kind of just keep writing until we go back into the studio to record."
