Lola Young celebrates first Number 1 single with Messy
"It’s amazing – this feels like the right time!"
Lola Young’s breakthrough hit Messy transcends its TikTok virality to finally take the top spot on this week’s Official Singles Chart.
Displacing Gracie Abrams’ That’s So True after a three-week run at the summit, the South London singer-songwriter claims her first-ever Number 1 in the track’s 11th week on chart.
Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, Lola Young says:
“It’s amazing, this feels like the right time!
“Thank you, I love you all so much! Thank you for being there for me, supporting me. If you’ve been there from the beginning, or if you’ve just come along, enjoy this journey and I’ll keep making bangers for you lot!”

On Messy’s universal appeal, Lola explains: “This wasn’t expected, but it’s definitely a song I really believed in. It’s a song that I wrote on my own, and it feels really special. We all kind of knew it was special, but we didn’t think it’d be this big!”
ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’s smash APT. shows its staying power in its 14th week on the UK’s Singles Chart; at Number 2 for a fourth week on the bounce.
Bolton-born singer, songwriter and producer Chrystal scores a brand-new peak with breakthrough hit The Days this week, lifting one to Number 4.
Opening up to Official Charts about her decade-long career to date, Chrystal says:
“It’s been an amazing but emotional journey, to be honest. I’d given up being an artist, because I’d said to myself ‘you tried your best, but know when it’s time to quit.’
“When I released this music, in my mind I’d retired as an artist. My new goal was to be a songwriter, so for my old music to take off, hearing my voice being played all over the world, it’s just incredible.”
This week’s highest new entry comes courtesy of Central Cee, with 21 Savage team-up GBP in at Number 6. It becomes West London rapper Cench’s ninth UK Top 10 single, and 21 Savage’s seventh.
BTS star Jimin’s enduring hit Who is on the rebound once again, up six in a return to the Top 10 (7).
Rising London producer PAWSA bags his highest-ever Singles Chart entry with Adventures of Stevie V rework Dirty Cash (Money Talks), lifting five to Number 17 this week. The original track peaked at Number 2 back in 1989.
Inescapable on TikTok, Hozier’s viral cover of Arctic Monkeys’ 2013 track Do I Wanna Know? reaches new highs this week (18), as does US singer, songwriter and social media sensation Alex Warren’s breakthrough hit Carry You Home (23).
Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny bags a brand-new peak with DtMF (meaning DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS – translating to I Should Have Taken More Photos) (33), as does rising country star Sam Barber with melancholic Avery Anna collab Indigo (33).
Finally, Imogen Heap scores a new personal best today with 2006 track Headlock. The song gave Heap her first ever UK Top 40 hit last week and its continued virality boosts it further still to Number 35 today.
