Listen to Katy Perry return to dance pop on When I'm Gone with DJ Alesso
Katy Perry has returned to dance-pop with her new single When I'm Gone with DJ Alesso.
The track was released today (December 29) as Katy beings her first-ever residency, Play, in Las Vegas.
Over a thumping house-beat, Katy says she's "going to give them everything that they want," and this high-tempo banger will certainly win over a huge swathe of pop fans.
But it also seems that Katy is hiding a few things up her sleeve - she also teased in a tweet that more mystery news would be incoming on January 10th, when the track's music video will premiere exclusively on BT Sport in the UK and ESPN in the US.
Don’t worry y’all, you’ll still be able to #PLAY along with me on December 29th, because #WHENIMGONE with @alesso will be coming 🦾 pre-save at https://t.co/GuEMxmKGC4

When I'm Gone will function as Katy's first big release since she dropped her last album Smile in 2020, although this year she did contribute a single (Electric) to the soundtrack of an official Pokemon album.
Smile - which featured singles such as Never Really Over and the perky title track - debuted at peaked at Number 5 on the Official Albums Chart, becoming Katy's fourth UK Top 10 album.
2021 has also seen a fan favourite track from Smile reach viral fame. Harley's In Hawaii, which didn't crack the top 40 upon initial release in 2019, recieved an uplift of 426% after the song's hypnotic chorus became massively popular on TikTok.
