LISA becomes first BLACKPINK member to sign solo deal, inks with RCA Records
LISA will also maintain control of her masters in the new deal.
LISA has become the first member of K-pop girlgroup BLACKPINK to ink a solo deal, joining the roster over at Sony's RCA Records.
Showing that Lisa is also keeping a keen eye on her business assets, the partnership is with both Lisa and her own company, LLOUND, which she described as a "platform to showcase my vision in music and entertainment." This also means that Lisa will maintain the copyright of her master recordings as a solo artist.
While the other members of BLACKPINK - Rosé, Jisoo and Jennie - have all released solo music in the past, it has all been under the banner of YG, the Korean label who formed the group. Lisa is the first member to branch out, although it has been announced that while BLACKPINK will release new music this year, its individual members did not re-sign contracts with YG Entertainment, and will be free to seek deals at other labels for their solo endeavors.
As a group, BLACKPINK's music is issued through YG Entertainment and Interscope/UMG internationally.
The news of LISA's expansion of her burgeoning solo career also follows the news that she's joined the cast of acclaimed comedy-drama The White Lotus for its third season, which is currently filming in Thailand with Sex Education's Aimee Lou Wood and Carrie Coon also joining the fold.
LISA is hardly the first BLACKPINK member to make the switch to acting, though. Last year, Jennie made her acting debut in HBO's controversial The Idol, alongside The Weeknd and Lily Rose Depp. One Of The Girls, a cut from The Idol's soundtrack, hit Number 21 on the Official Singles Chart, meaning Jennie holds the record for the BLACKPINK member with the highest-charting solo material in the UK.
Previously, Jisoo became the first BLACKPINK member to score a UK Top 40 solo single, with Flower peaking at Number 28.
Rosé's debut solo single On The Ground (banger) peaked at Number 43, while LISA's LALISA and Money hit Number 68 and Number 46 in 2021 respecitvely.
