Lionel Richie steals show on Glastonbury-filled Official Albums Chart Update
Arguably the highlight of the final day of Glastonbury 2015, Lionel Richie could now be set to steal the show on this weekend’s Official Chart too!
Lionel Richie & The Commodores’ The Definitive Collection is heading for this week’s Official Albums Chart Number 1. Following the singer’s Sunday set on the festival’s Pyramid stage which took in a string of his biggest career hits including Dancing On The Ceiling, Easy, Hello and All Night Long (All Night), on sales alone the hits collection has this week seen a staggering 2693% sales boost versus the same period last week.
The greatest hits album previously reached Number 10 on the Official Chart upon its release in 2003, and this week climbs 103 places midweek and is set to mark its first Top 40 re-entry in six years.
Richie is in good company, with a mammoth 17 of today’s Official Albums Chart Update Top 40 belonging to Glastonbury 2015 acts, including headliners Florence + The Machine’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (2) and The Who’s Who Hits 50 (12), who both saw week-on-week uplifts on 57%, as well as James Bay’s Chaos and the Calm (4), and Jungle’s Jungle (26).
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s 1989 climbs one place to Number 3 midweek following her headline performance at British Summer Time Hyde Park, and Ed Sheeran’s x holds firm at Number 5.
