ORIGINAL ARTICLE (26/08/2021): Lil Nas X has confirmed he will release his debut album MONTERO next month.

The follow-up to his 7 EP, MONTERO will be released on Friday September 17. The collection was trailed by the Official UK Number 1 single Montero (Call Me By Your Name) and Jack Harlow collaboration Industry Baby, which has so far peaked at Number 7 on the UK's Official Singles Chart.

"creating this album has been therapy for me," Lil Nas X, real name Montero Lamar Hill, told his social media followers. "i’ve learned to let go of trying to control people’s perception of who i am, what i can do, and where i will be. i’ve realized the only opinion of me that really matters is my own."

Lil Nas X previously stated that the album will be more cohesive than his EP, and has helped him realise who he is as an artist, and to move away from the notion that "he’s a cool gay person; he’s an acceptable gay person": "I used to see things like that as a compliment, but it’s not. It just means you’re a people pleaser, and they never become legends."

The Georgian rapper and singer has also teased that the album will be "a coming of age story" with him being his true self without 'playing so many characters'.

To promote the album, Lil Nas X will take part in BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge Month in September, appearing alongside other global stars such as Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello and BTS.
