Leona, Ellie and Avicii challenge Lily for Number 1
Leona Lewis, Ellie Goulding and Avicii battle it out with Lily Allen to claim this week’s Official Number 1 single!
Reigning Official Singles Chart queen Lily Allen faces tough competition from Avicii, Ellie Goulding and Leona Lewis in this week’s race to Number 1.
Lily’s cover of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know, which is featured in John Lewis’s Christmas TV ad campaign, returned to the chart summit last Sunday to spend a second non-consecutive week at the top spot. Yet, while it remains in pole-position on today’s Official Singles Chart Update, with less than 7,000 copies currently separating the Top 4, it could all change come Sunday.
Avicii climbs six places to Number 2 today with his latest single, Hey Brother, while Ellie Goulding is up four to Number 3 with How Long Will I Love You. Ellie’s track is this year’s official Children In Need single.
Meanwhile, after former X Factor winner Leona Lewis performed her new Christmas-themed single, One More Sleep, on Sunday’s X Factor results show, the track has soared a massive 34 places to Number 4 today.
This week’s Top 5 is completed by One Direction’s Story Of My Life, which falls three places to Number 5.
New Entries and High Climbers
Justin Bieber leads this week’s Official Singles Chart Update’s new entries with Confident FT Chance The Rapper, which is new in at Number 17. Should the 19-yrear-old Canadian singer’s momentum continue going into the weekend, it will be his tenth Top 40 single in as many weeks.
Meanwhile, Elvis Presley’s chances of scoring a second Christmas Number 1 some 51 years after he first topped the festive chart with Return To Sender seem to have stalled somewhat; O Come All Ye Faithful, The King’s duet with Susan Boyle, is at Number 40 today. The 2013 Christmas Number 1 race official kicks off on Sunday (December 15) with this year’s winning track being revealed on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart Show with Scott Mills and Jameela Jamil , and on www.officialcharts.com on Sunday 22 December, the full Official Christmas Singles Chart Top 100 will be posted from 7pm. Follow Official Charts on Twitter and Facebook throughout next week for the very latest official updates.
Chase And Status climb 14 places to enter the Top 40 at Number 34 with Alive FT Jacob Banks, while Kid Ink is up six places to 39 with Show Me FT Chris Brown.
