Lana Del Rey looks set to debut at Number 1

25 year old US singer Lana Del Rey’s major label debut album, Born To Die, is comfortably outselling the rest of the Top 5 based on figures from today’s Official Chart Update.

Outstripping its nearest competitor, Leonard Cohen’s Old Ideas (2), by more than two copies to one, the album is the singer’s second studio album but her first release via a major label under the moniker Lana Del Rey. The album’s title track debuted in the Official Singles Chart Top 20 at Number 14 this past Sunday and today climbs three places to Number 11, while her debut single, Video Games, appears today at Number 19 in its 16th week on the Official Singles Chart. Video Games has shifted nearly 272,000 units since release and amassed a staggering 24.5 million views on YouTube.

In terms of new entries, dance duo 2 Bears hit the Official Chart Update Top 40 with critically-acclaimed debut Be Strong today, featuring their signature dancefloor stomper Bear Hug. Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and DJ Raf Rundell have locked paws on this uplifting electronic record off the back of a series of EPs and their weekly Ministry Of Sound radio show. Be Strong enters today at Number 26.

Metronomy stablemates Django Django are new in at 27 with their self-titled synth-laden guitar debut, while Sherlock – The Music From Series 1, written by James Bond composer David Arnold and Michael Price takes position at Number 34. The Official Albums Chart Update Top 40 new album entries are completed by Nashville-based Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Gretchen PetersHello Cruel World.

And finally, Christina Perri’s Lovestrong is today’s Official Albums Chart Update highest climber, jumping 27 places to Number 10.
