Lady Gaga's last big pop album was called Chromatica... could the next one be Chaotica?

In a new interview, Mother Monster has explained that the "true chaos" of life is very much a central theme of the album, which is due in February 2025.

Gaga has already released the album's rampaging lead single Disease, which became her 16th Top 10 on the Official Singles Chart, peaking at Number 7. During her new interview with Rolling Stone, Gaga said that Disease "felt like a way into the chaos of the album, which is kind of exercises in chaos – different sides of who I am as a person".

"To me, there’s some kind of chaos in all of the ways we try to analyse ourselves," she continued. "Disease is the beginning of that, and it started with this little voice on my shoulder saying, 'There's no more tears to cry, I heard you begging for life', and that uncomfortable feeling that we can sometimes have when the voice in our head is not pleasant."

Gaga also revealed that one track from the album was informed by British rock icons David Bowie and Queen – as fans will know, Gaga's stage name is a nod to Queen's classic hit Radio Ga Ga. "There’s one song I’m thinking of in particular that I’m very excited for the fans to hear," Gaga said. "It was the very first song we wrote for this album and it’s like, hard-hitting beats and those big sweeping Queen vocals and some Bowie guitars."

Speaking about the overall vibe of the album, Gaga added: "There’s other moments where it’s all about love, and it’s super-dreamy. That, to me, is true chaos. There are times when it’s hard to see the light, but I think sometimes what makes inner chaos harder is when you sometimes get a glimpse of the sun, because you’re like, 'Man, I wish the sun would shine all the time', and then it reminds you of what you're missing."

Gaga's last pop album, 2020's Chromatica, became her fourth Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart. She has since released 2021's Love for Sale, a collaborative album with the late Tony Bennett that charted at Number 6, and Harlequin, a collection of jazz covers inspired by her recent movie Joker: Folie à Deux. The latter peaked at Number 11.

This year, she's also been riding high with her Bruno Mars duet Die with a Smile, which has racked up 10 weeks in the Top 10 with a peak position of Number 2. So, the stage is definitely set for Gaga to go full pop star again in 2025. Ra ra indeed.
