Kate Bush reveals she is planning to record first new music in 13 years
Kate Bush has revealed she is planning on recording new music, having "lots" of new ideas.
The news will come as a shock and surprise to many - Bush's last release of original music was in 2011, with the dual albums Director's Cut and 50 Words For Snow, with her last public appearance coming in 2014 for her acclaimed Before The Dawn concert residency, the first live show she'd performed in some decades.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Emma Barnett this morning on Today, Bush - who was on the programme to speak about her new short film she's created in support of the charity War Child - revealed that while she hasn't been in the studio recently, she has been thinking about what new music could sound like.
And it could be coming sooner than you think.
"I've got lots of ideas," she said, confirming she was "keen" to start the recording process. "It's been a long time, I'm really looking forward to getting back into that creative space."
It has indeed been a long time, but Bush famously claimed an entire generation of new fans just two years ago when were 1985 classic Running Up That Hill was used in the fourth season of Netflix's blockbuster mega-hit Stranger Things.
Integral to the character arc of Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink's), Stranger Things helped introduce Running Up That Hill, and Kate herself, to a whole new generation. The influx of attention eventually resulted in Running Up That Hill finally climbing to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart in June - breaking a triple of Official Charts records in the process.
Running Up That Hill - written and produced entirely by Bush herself - was the lead single from her fifth album and magnum opus, Hounds Of Love, and also held the distinction of being crowned the UK's Official Song of the Summer for 2022, as well as one of the Official Top 40 biggest songs of 2022 overall too.
Overall, Bush has earned two UK Number 1 singles and three UK Number 1 albums. Her first chart-topping single, Wuthering Heights, became the first song in UK chart history written solely by a woman to reach Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart, while Running Up That Hill shares the distinction of being one of two songs entirely written and produced by a woman to reach Number 1 (the other being Kenya Grace's 2023 chart-topper Strangers).

I could complain about how long it's taking her; but, as a long time fan I am just so thrilled that she hasn't quit.
