Kate Beckinsale's Underworld: Blood Wars set for highest new entry on this week's DVD chart

The Official Video Chart, the UK's measuring stick for the most popular DVD and Blu-ray releases of the last seven days, is about to get a lot more dark and mysterious.

Underworld: Blood Wars, the fifth instalment in the Underworld franchise starring Kate Beckinsale, has shifted 35,000 units as of today's Official Video Chart Update sales flash, and currently sits at Number 2 in the rankings. The supernatural epic is 15,000 copies behind last week's chart topper Sing (which sold 161,000 last week), but shouldn't be ruled out just yet.

Previously, the second and third instalments in the Underworld franchise Evolution and Rise of the Lycans hit Number 1 on the Official Video Chart in 2006 and 2009, history that Blood Wars will hope to repeat. Blood Wars' immediate predecessor Underworld: Awakening peaked at Number 2 with first week sales of 103,000.

Rounding out today's midweek Top 5 are XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, a potential newbie at Number 3, Hacksaw Ridge at 4, and Top 5 mainstay La La Land (5).

New entries and high climbers

Eight further new entries look to impact this week's Top 40, starting with Natalie Portman's Jackie, which is predicted to chart at Number 6. Tom Hardy's BBC drama Taboo looks to open at Number 14, ahead of Rings, the latest in The Ring franchise at 15.

Motor Racing movie McLaren is Top 20 bound at Number 18, as is Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Dark Side of Dimensions at 20. Further down, Suits: Season 6 is expected to hit Number 29, Doctor Who: Series 10 - Pt 1 is at 33, and Best, a look at the life of footballer George Best is at Number 35.
