Kasabian have ended Sam Smith’s two-week stand at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with their latest full-length, 48:13.
The critically acclaimed album, which takes its name from its running time, has today become the Leicester band’s fourth UK chart topping album. Kasabian scored their first Number 1 album in 2006 with Empire, and 2009’s West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum and 2011’s Velociraptor! also took the top spot.
Says Kasabian guitarist Sergio Pizzorno: "What a way to kick off the biggest three weeks of our lives: achieving our fourth consecutive Number 1 album, followed by a 50,000-strong crowd at our Leicester homecoming gig and the pinnacle - headlining Glastonbury!"
48:13 has sold over 70,000 copies in the last seven days, according to the Official Charts Company’s sales figures.
Coldplay hold firm at Number 2 for a third week with Ghost Stories, while Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour is down two to Number 3. Former White Stripes frontman Jack White is new in at Number 4 with his second solo album, Lazaretto, and Brighton-based singer/songwriter Passenger, debuts at Number 5.
New Entries
Dolly Parton, who is due to headline this year’s Glastonbury festival, enters at Number 6 today with her new covers album, Blue Smoke, while Swedish duo First Aid Kit are new in at Number 11 with their third album, Stay Gold.
California rockers Rival Sons enter at 14 with their new album, Great Western Valkyrie, The Pretenders’ frontwoman Chrissie Hynde enters is at 22 with her debut solo album, Stockholm, and The Who’s new live album, Quadrophenia - Live In London is at 28.
This week’s new entries are completed by Anathema’s Distant Satellites (33) and Charlotte Jaconelli (formerly one half of Britain’s Got Talent duo Jonathan & Charlotte) with Solitaire (40).
